Zaventem, April 21st 2022 - Eurofiber announces today its partnership with SOFICO (Société wallonne de financement complémentaire des infrastructures) as the first operator to offer very high speed fiber optic connectivity (VHS) to companies in Walloon business parks. Thanks to this non-exclusive agreement, companies in certain business parks will have , as of this summer, access to new and diversified services offered by Eurofiber and its commercial partners.
Thanks to this agreement between the public company and the private company, Eurofiber will be able to address SMEs on the basis of the fiber-optic infrastructure made available by SOFICO and offer them an HSBB (high speed broadband)-connection at an advantageous price.
"We are delighted with this partnership with Eurofiber," says Frank CHENOT, SOFICO's Telecom Director. "We are proud to be able to propose a dedicated fiber optic connectivity offer to all the business parks which will allow the development of more competitive products better adapted to our companies. Through this project, SOFICO is contributing to the economic development of Wallonia by improving its very high-speed connectivity," concludes SOFICO's Telecom Director.
"We are delighted to be associated with SOFICO and to contribute to the democratization of fiber access for SMEs in Wallonia. Eurofiber will offer fiber-optic connectivity to SMEs through its local ICT and telecom partners. Our partners will integrate it into their specific telecom services used by SMEs. This B2B partnership with SOFICO is complementary to our investment in Unifiber, which aims to provide 600,000 Walloon homes with fiber-optics'’, says Hans WITDOUCK, CEO of Eurofiber Belgium.
By the end of 2024 SOFICO will cover all 292 business parks in Wallonia. The progress of the coverage can be followed via this link: Fiber optic | Sofico
"This is the culmination of an important project on which we wanted to work quickly and thoroughly, with one crucial objective in mind: to equip all our business parks with the best tools available to help them perform well", says Willy BORSUS, Vice-President of Wallonia, Minister of Economy, Research and Innovation, Digital Economy, Agriculture, Spatial Planning, IFAPME and Competence Centres. "A competitive and attractive region is a region that knows how to respond to the needs and expectations of its companies. This necessarily requires the installation and deployment of the most modern technologies in terms of connectivity. Fiber is one of these solutions and I am delighted that Wallonia, together with Eurofiber, can count on a partner who shares this vision and these convictions. It is estimated that by 2028, 4.2 million homes and businesses in Belgium will be connectable to the fiber optic network. This shows how important it is to follow and accelerate the pace in Wallonia", says Willy BORSUS.
